Somebody pop the champagne, sound the sirens, and get ready for some October baseball in Milwaukee!
The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the 2026 World Series for the first time in 44 years!
In a comeback that Brewers fans won’t soon forget, Milwaukee defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday night, October 15, completing a stunning four-game sweep of the National League Championship Series (NLCS).
That’s right. The Brewers didn’t just beat the defending World Series champions. They swept them right out of the postseason.
And now, for the first time since 1982, Milwaukee is going to the Fall Classic!
For a little while Thursday night, things looked pretty good for Los Angeles.
The Dodgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, thanks in part to a massive three-run home run from superstar Shohei Ohtani.
But if there’s one thing this Brewers team has proven, it’s that they’re never out of a ballgame.
Milwaukee got to work in the fourth inning, scoring two runs behind big doubles from William Contreras and Jake Bauers.
In the fifth, David Hamilton delivered an RBI single, and Bauers drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 4-4.
Then came the moment Brewers fans had been waiting for.
Garrett Mitchell launched a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning, giving Milwaukee its first lead of the night.
Hamilton added some breathing room with a solo homer in the ninth, and reliever Aaron Ashby finished the job, recording the final nine outs.
Final score: Milwaukee Brewers 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 4.
Series result: Brewers win the NLCS, 4-0.
And just like that, the Dodgers’ dreams of a third consecutive World Series championship were over.
It’s been a long, long wait for Milwaukee baseball fans.
The Brewers last appeared in the World Series in 1982, when they were still members of the American League.
That team, affectionately known as Harvey’s Wallbangers, featured legendary players including Robin Yount, Paul Molitor and Cecil Cooper.
Milwaukee faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1982 World Series, ultimately losing a heartbreaking seven-game series.
The Brewers moved to the National League in 1998, making this year’s championship their first-ever National League pennant.
And there’s another piece of history on the line.
The Milwaukee Brewers have never won a World Series championship.
That could all change in 2026.
What makes this year’s run even sweeter?
The Dodgers swept the Brewers in the 2025 NLCS.
One year later, Milwaukee returned the favor, becoming the first team in MLB history to be swept by an opponent in one postseason and then sweep that same opponent the following year.
Talk about turning the tables!
The Brewers also entered the playoffs after an incredible regular season, finishing with an MLB-best 103 wins.
And after a dominant NLCS performance, Jake Bauers earned series MVP honors.
This isn’t just a feel-good story anymore. Milwaukee has earned its place on baseball’s biggest stage.
So when does the 2026 World Series start, and who will the Brewers play?
