The Green Bay Blizzard found pay dirt on the opening kick Friday night at the Resch Center in Green Bay, but it was their stingy second-half defense that powered the team to its third consecutive victory, 55-39 over the Fishers Freight.
The Blizzard shut out the Freight in the third quarter and allowed just 16 total second-half points. Twenty-one unanswered for Green Bay to open the second half put the insurmountable distance between the two squads that were separated by just a single point heading into the break, 24-23 Green Bay.
The victory boosted the Blizzard’s record to 6-3 overall, and helped them keep pace in the East with the Conference leading Steamwheelers (7-2) who posted a 31-27 win at Tulsa. It’s a crowded conference at the top. Also residing at 6-3 are Tulsa and Jacksonville. The latter comes to the Resch Center on Friday, June 13th, but the Blizzard needs to be careful not to look beyond this week’s opponent, the 1-7 Iowa Barnstormers. Green Bay will seek the 3-game series sweep of Iowa this Friday at 7:05 at home.
