On Thursday, April 24th, people will be tuned in to find out where Colorado star Shedeur Sanders, son of the legendary Deion Sanders, ends up going in the 2025 NFL Draft. It wasn’t long ago that Sanders was considered the best quarterback in the class, but Miami’s Cam Ward stole that title and looks to be on his way to the Tennessee Titans. Now, things are going to get interesting for Sanders. The signal caller has his fans around the league, but he also has plenty of detractors. This is also viewed as a down year for quarterbacks, so the teams that need them might not be eager to use valuable draft capital on a player they don’t love. With that in mind, it’s really unclear how the night will go for Sanders. But we’ll try to dive into all of it here. Keep reading for a Sanders scouting report, plus some betting markets that are available for him. Shedeur Sanders Scouting Report
Last season, Sanders threw for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for a Colorado team that went from 4-8 in 2023 to 9-4 in 2024. Sanders also completed 74.0% of his passes and finished the season as Pro Football Focus’ fourth-ranked quarterback (90.9) — and third-ranked passer (90.5).
Sanders doesn’t have a cannon for an arm, which is one of the things that separates him and Ward. However, he is viewed as one of the most accurate passers in the draft, and he has enough of an arm to make throws down the field. He also has an underrated set of legs. While he’s not a player that will look to scramble often, he can extend plays and give himself time to throw. Of course, Sanders got sacked a ton in his time in Boulder, so many will refute that while also questioning his ability to get the ball out in a timely fashion. But Colorado’s offensive line was absolutely atrocious in his two years with the program.
If Sanders lands in a situation in which he’s better protected, he should end up being a good starting quarterback. People like to talk about the explosive plays Ward can generate with his natural ability, and Sanders might lack some of that. But he’s smart and puts the ball right where it needs to be when he has time. So, he could thrive in the right offense.
It doesn’t hurt that Sanders oozes confidence. Many will say the 23-year-old is cocky, but there’s nothing wrong with believing in your ability — especially when you’re viewed as an excellent teammate.
Shedeur Sanders Over/Under Draft Position
Sanders’ Over/Under draft position at DraftKings Sportsbook is 8.5, with the Over heavily juiced at -350. That means you can get +260 odds if you think Sanders will be picked eighth or earlier. That’s interesting considering Sanders’ private workout with the New York Giants, who need a long-term quarterback and have the third pick in the draft, supposedly went well. But New York does have some stop-gap options with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster. And Brian Daboll is on the hot seat, so he might not want his future attached to a young quarterback. After the Giants, the next team linked to Sanders is the Las Vegas Raiders, who just traded for Geno Smith and don’t seem eager to add another QB. So, the more you think about it, the more likely it seems Sanders will experience a bit of a slide.
Who will draft Shedeur Sanders?
New Orleans Saints (+195)
Cleveland Browns (+250)
Pittsburgh Steelers (+275)
New York Giants (+350)
Las Vegas Raiders (+850)
New York Jets (16-1)
Los Angeles Rams (20-1)
Seattle Seahawks (25-1)
Miami Dolphins (30-1)
Indianapolis Colts (35-1)

New Orleans has the ninth pick in the draft and just found out starting quarterback Derek Carr is out indefinitely. Carr’s long-term future with the Saints is also up in the air. So, with New Orleans needing a franchise quarterback, it makes sense that Sanders’ name is coming up at No. 9. He would likely thrive with new head coach Kellen Moore pushing the buttons on offense. But I will note that the Rams seem like a dart worth throwing. They need somebody to take over once Matthew Stafford retires, and that day is rapidly approaching. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sean McVay sees a future with Sanders under center. He built a Super Bowl-level offense around Jared Goff years ago, and there are similarities between Sanders and the current Detroit Lions quarterback. Plus, it’d be pretty damn fun for a player with Sanders’ flair to end up in Los Angeles.
