The luck of the Irish ran out on the Green Bay Blizzard on Sunday, as they fell to the Massachusetts Pirates 44-40 in their 2024 season opener at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The Blizzard jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and kept piling on, building a 40-22 cushion in the 3rd, before the Pirates comes storming back. Massachusetts tallied 22 unanswered, including 16 in the final quarter, taking the lead for good with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
The Blizzard set themselves up for a potential game winning score on the heels of a Jayln Cagle 28-yard kickoff return, but just two plays later, Massachusetts sealed the victory, intercepting Green Bay QB Max Meylor in the endzone.
The Blizzard (0-1) stay home this weekend for a Saturday night affair with the visiting Iowa Barnstormers (0-0). Kickoff is set for 6:05pm at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
