In a recent Spectrum News 1 feature, Leo Kiper offered his insights on the Green Bay Packers’ appointment of Jeff Hafley as their new defensive coordinator.
As the co-host of The Show with Leo and Balky, Leo is deeply embedded in the Wisconsin sports scene, so he has a number of thoughts on this decision. He explained that Jeff Hafley’s selection came as a surprise to many, yet it has been met with positive reactions from fans. “They are overwhelmingly applauding this hire as they think it’s definitely going to be an upgrade over Joe Barry,” Leo explained.
Barry was recently fired after spending three seasons as the Packers defensive coordinator. His departure has left fans hopeful for improvement in the defensive and special teams areas of the team.
Highlighting the significance of the situation, Leo compared Hafley’s hiring to that of Rich Bisaccia for the special teams. He said, “But, this is going to be his next big hire, and he’s definitely going to hit this one because the Packers have struggled so badly with their defensive coordinators over the past decade or so.”
Remaining optimistic, Leo hinted at hopes for a potential Super Bowl in the Packers future, stating, “I’m not gonna say Super Bowl or bust, but I will say the Super Bowl window is back open. So, Super Bowl contender, definitely.”
