What is it like to spend the day with The Score and The Show? Well, in my experience, it includes a chicken bacon jam sandwich, a first pitch or two at the Timber Rattlers’ game, some 90-degree weather, and a hilarious experience watching Leo and Balky interview a T-Rats player and quiz some tailgaters.
To start off the day, Big Jake from Razor Wisconsin and I had the privilege of witnessing Timber Rattlers’ Executive Chef, Charles Behrmann, assemble Leo & Balky’s winning entry in the Timber Rattlers Food Fight Contest. Their sandwich called “The Show” is a beautiful combination of fried chicken breast, Wisconsin cheddar cheese, and a sweet bacon cherry jam served on grilled sourdough bread. It’s as delicious as it sounds.
“The Show” Sandwich can be ordered at Neuroscience Group Field at the Cher-make concession stand on the third base side of the Fox Cities Stadium, as well as in the Fox Club. According to a Timber Rattler worker we talked to, the sandwich is their best-seller on the menu, outselling everything else 3 to 1. Not sure how accurate that is, but at least it boosted Leo and Balky’s egos a little bit.
After we finished up with the chef, we headed out into the 90-degree weather to take some video footage of the beautiful, newly renovated Fox Cities Stadium. We then joined The Show’s live broadcast from inside the stadium as they interviewed Timber Rattlers’ catcher, Matthew Wood. It was such a cool experience to witness a live-radio show in person, and Wood provided some great insight into his experience as a professional baseball player and his journey to get to his position on the Timber Rattlers.
As you probably know, the only right way to pass time before the start of a baseball game is to tailgate in the parking lot. We caught a few tailgaters enjoying the sun and a few adult beverages before heading inside, and Leo and Balky gave them an opportunity to guess the name of their contest-winning sandwich. “The Snake Bite,” “The Home Run,” and “The Grand Slam,” were a few of their incorrect guesses. We gave them some The Score Wisconsin merch for participating, and headed inside to interrogate some of the concession stand workers with the same question. It’s funny how few people knew what the best-selling sandwich even was or what it was called, but it probably had something to do with the worker we talked to letting us know it was his first day on the job.
The final task of my day with The Score was to capture Leo and Balky throwing the first pitch before the game. I won’t say who had the better throw, but I will say that Leo told me he used to be a pitcher back in the day… and Balky did not. Neither of their baseballs hit the ground before reaching the catcher’s mitt so we considered that a success.
I had a blast spending time with Leo and Balky and capturing their day at the Timber Rattlers’ stadium. You can listen to The Show with Leo and Balky weekday afternoons from 1pm-3pm, they’re sure to make you laugh and provide you with all your latest Wisconsin sports updates.
