Administrators at the largest hospitals in the Fox Cities report they’re seeing record numbers of COVID-19 patients right now.
Dr. Tom Nichols is the vice president of medical affairs at Ascension’s St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He says the cases have been rising exponentially over the past two weeks. He’s concerned about what the situation will look like in the coming weeks, because overall case totals are still high.
Dr. Jennifer Frank is the chief medical officer at ThedaCare, and she says more of their staff members are catching the virus while it spreads around the community.
Both doctors report not as many patients need ventilators right now. Frank believes that’s because they’re getting better at treating the virus.
